{"id":337,"date":"2008-04-16T08:50:00","date_gmt":"2008-04-15T22:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oakleigh.unitingchurch.org.au\/sdo\/index.php\/2008\/04\/16\/an-inconvenient-truth\/"},"modified":"2008-04-16T17:06:49","modified_gmt":"2008-04-16T07:06:49","slug":"an-inconvenient-truth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oakleigh.unitingchurch.org.au\/index.php\/2008\/04\/16\/an-inconvenient-truth\/","title":{"rendered":"An inconvenient truth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/nsidc.org\/news\/images\/20080325_wilkins_fig1_tmb.jpg\" title=\"Ice shelf\" alt=\"Ice shelf\" align=\"right\" height=\"317\" hspace=\"15\" vspace=\"10\" width=\"350\" \/>This past Sunday afternoon, the St. David&#8217;s congregation had a screening of Al Gore&#8217;s film, <em>An Inconvenient Truth.<\/em> One of the indicators of climate change is the disintegration of ice shelves in both Antarctica and the Arctic circle, including Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>Just over a month ago, an area of ice the size of the Gold Coast disappeared into the Antarctic seas in just a few days.<\/p>\n<p>A report from the National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Satellite imagery from the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the         University of Colorado at Boulder reveals that a 13,680 square kilometer         (5,282 square mile) ice shelf has begun to collapse because of rapid         climate change in a fast-warming region of Antarctica.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nsidc.org\/news\/press\/20080325_Wilkins.html\" target=\"_blank\">Read more&gt;&gt;\u00c2\u00a0<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are things that each and every one of us can do to make a difference to the problem of global warming.
