Share Appeal & Bread Run

The Share Appeal is a program of UnitingCare that provides assistance to people in need. The Balkara Parish (Oakleigh) is involved in the Share Appeal in a number of ways.

Food Assistance

Food assistance is available for people in our local community with particular needs. Offerings gathered through our worship, collected for the Share Appeal are doubled in value in the form of food vouchers. Vouchers are distributed on a needs basis.

Pancake Day

The Balkara Parish takes part in the annual Pancake Day (see links at left). The Pancake Day is a great fundraiser for local community projects. Over the last few years, Moorfields UnitingCare in Atherton Road, Oakleigh has been the focus of our pancake fundraisers.

The Bread Run

Once a week, members of St. David’s congregation collect left-over bread from a local bakery to distribute to people in need. The bread is bagged and handed to the local ‘Citizens Advice Bureau’ who then pass the food on to their clients.
